Mothers pass antibodies to their babies before birth, so newborns have protection against some diseases, and babies who are breasted continue to have antibodies through breast milk. Nevertheless, this protection is temporary and that is why babies are required to be immunized. Immunization keep your baby safe from many serious diseases at the beginning of the life.
Vaccination creates immunity against certain diseases. Immunization not only keeps your child safe from deadly diseases such as polio, tetanus, and diphtheria but also lowers the risk of (or eliminate) spreading the dangerous disease to other children. If your baby is at a high risk of getting a certain disease, the doctor may suggest early or extra vaccines.
How Immunization system works in Pakistan:
When a baby is born, some hospitals offer newborn vaccination to parents and in other hospitals parents are informed to get newborn vaccination done within the first 7 days of baby’s birth.
In Pakistan Immunization is offered free (from the government) from birth till 15months, against major diseases. Once you start your baby’s vaccination through government authorized personnel available twice a week in all private and government hospitals, you will receive a (yellow) card listing all the vaccines available along with the timeline. All vaccines are available at all Government health centers. In each city.
You should keep the card safe for future use, as it is required for every vaccination and to keep a record. These vaccines are also available privately to some doctors but for this you will have to pay the fees.
