Let them have their big feelings, just continously validate by saying empathetically that you understand wy they are upset and if they want a hug, give one help them relax if they dont want you to touch them just be there and tell them I am here if you want a hug. Crying is not a bad thing this is their way of expression what they are feeling let them cry and keep validating once they will listen that you understand them they will pause and respond.
